Included in the Arts program is the Art of DJing, including classes for girls on the Art of Djing to provide an outlet that we feel is imperative to the creativity and success of youth!
Here, Dee Jay Alicia breaks down her plan for the next to last night of SummerDance here, saying,
“I choose my set by demographics. I like to ensure that I leave an impression on everyone who attends an event. I also cross mix music, meaning I play crowd favorites but also incorporate songs that would be considered off the beaten path of what the crowd may be used to. Lastly, some selections come in the moment. The moment is determined by the energy and emotion of the crowd. I like to complete each event knowing that I touched everyone there through my set.
“I have performed at several events and outdoor festivals throughout Chicago in the past few years including the Randolph Street Fair, Sliver Room Block Party, Millennium Park Chicago House Party, Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park, and the Chosen Few Picnic. This will be my first performance at SummerDance. I’m excited and looking forward to the opportunity to perform.
“My performances have also reached stages across the U.S. i.e. Texas, Detroit and Los Angeles but I have yet to fulfill the dream of performing overseas. That has been a goal of mine for some time and it is my hope that can be accomplished during my career.
"The most fun about events like Summerdance is the crowd DIVERSITY. Looking out onto a dance floor full of people from different walks of life all grooving to the same beat with no cares or biases does my heart GOOD!"
