A spokesperson describes the event as follows:
Mina Cheon: Known for her "Polipop" art, blending Pop Art and Social Realism, Mina's work critiques state propaganda and explores tensions between North and South Korea, including her North Korean alter ego, Kim Il Soon. Her pieces include installations like 99 Miss Kim(s) and paintings like 007 (2013) that provide commentary on artistic freedom and state control.
Tracy Weisman: Her explosive reinterpretations of Cold War-era imagery evoke emotional and political reflections on war, gender rights, and state protection. Works like Duck and Cover (2024) and Precipice
Won Seoung Won: Her intricate photo collages, including Sea of Journalists (2017), merge reality and imagination, exploring the chaotic intersection of media and political turmoil.
Through these artworks, the exhibition encourages viewers to reflect on the complexities of global politics, the stories we inherit, and the personal narratives tied to power and control. STORIED challenges us to think critically about the ways in which the Cold War continues to shape our world.
