“...Beyond Boundaries: An Exploration of Music and Movement, featuring the Chicago debut of the innovative, talented trio featuring Vishnu Ramprasad (navtar), Krissy Bergmark (tabla), and Shalaka Kulkarni (movement and storytelling) who will premier original music and improvisations...
...This event will feature artists:
● Vishnu Ramprasad: A Bangalore,India based award-winning performer, composer, and inventor of the Navtar, a unique 9-string instrument. Vishnu's expertise spans Indian Classical, Western Classical, and Jazz Fusion, making his performances a fusion of tradition and innovation. Based in India
● Krissy Bergmark: A Chicago based, tabla player, percussionist, and educator, Krissy brings the rich traditions of the tabla to new and cross-genre contexts. Her work has been recognized and supported by various prestigious grants and foundations. Bergmark is a professor of music at Oakton College and longtime student of tabla genius Yogesh Samsi. Based in Chicago.
● Shalaka Kulkarni: A Chicago based interdisciplinary dance artist, Shalaka integrates Indian Classical dance with contemporary movement practices. Her work explores themes of female identity, societal norms, and gender fluidity, creating powerful narratives through dance and storytelling. Currently, she is part of the Chicago Dramatists Playwright Network as their 2024 MEH Scholar. Based in Chicago…."
