San Francisco Ballet has cancelled all performances March 24 – April 5, 2020 at the War Memorial Opera House
SF Ballet Executive Director Kelly Tweeddale said: “We all believe that art matters, and perhaps most in times of challenge and isolation. We are looking at what we can do to show that we care.”
In an unprecedented measure, due to the cancellation of nine performances of George Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream March 7–15, SF Ballet received permission to present a limited online stream of SF Ballet in this full-length production, which will be made available early next week via electronic streaming on a limited basis. The streamed performance is available only to ticket holders of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
For more information please check the SF Ballet website.
For a NON-ticket holder, what about offering an option to PAY to see this baller live-streamed? I’d welcome the opportunity!
Nancy — Actually when we first published this story you COULD buy a ticket to see it. But, since then– CAlifornia’s COVID-19 situation has caused the SF BAllet to further restrict performances— see their post at https://www.sfballet.org/a-message-regarding-the-covid-19-virus/
Picture This Post is trying to keep up with the fast pace of change– many events went through phases of 1) full audience 2) limited audience 3)no live audience and only livestream to 4) no livestream– some with canned/filmed earlier performances.
We imagine on the other side of this pandemic we might see a reverse trendline…keep tuned – we will announce as we can. We DO have several events –film of live performances– being announced-previewed and reviewed in the coming days. Our crystal ball remains murky beyond that- as does everyones.
