The Orion Ensemble celebrates its 25th year with four concert programs at venues across the Chicagoland area. The group, comprised of clarinetist Kathryne Pirtle, violinist Florentina Ramniceanu, cellist Judy Stone, and pianist Diana Schmück, will be joined by a variety of guest musicians as they perform old favorites and a world premier.
The season’s opener “A Beautiful Oboe and Friends,” featuring Alex Klein on oboe and Robert Kassinger on bass, includes compositions by Mozart and Prokofiev. Their second program, “Let’s Tango,” includes works by Bernstein and Schumann. In honor of their 25th year, the group will debut a composition by Sebastian Huydts at their third concert program “Old Meets New.” The group will be joined by Mathias Tacke for their fourth and final concert program “Quintessential Quintets.”
Throughout the season, Orion will continue to work with music departments in Chicago and its suburbs as part of an educational initiative called Janet’s Stage.
