New Music Chicago presents Ear Taxi Festival 2021: Hear Chicago, celebrating new, contemporary classical, experimental, creative, electronic and other genres of music and sound-practice, all composed, improvised and performed in Chicago by Chicagoans. Hear Chicago “is a call to engage with the vast multiplicity of styles and traditions that constitutes Chicago’s expansive musical identity, focusing on musicians of color as a significant part of the city’s complex history,” says a New Music Chicago spokesperson.
Ear Taxi Festival 2021 features two series: the Spotlight Series Concerts and the Mainstage Series Concerts. The Spotlight Series Concerts “allows musicians and artists to self-present in ways that exceed the parameters of the Mainstage Series Concerts – whether in terms of time, curatorial scope or technical setup,” says a New Music Chicago spokesperson. “With the Mainstage Series Concerts, Ear Taxi Festival focuses almost entirely on the presentation of Chicago music and of music that has influenced the city’s culture.”
