MATCHMAKER ZIP
Picture This Post Review Writers’ Guidelines
Your mission as a reviewer is to give your readers a vivid mental picture of the work you are reviewing to empower them to decide if it is their cup of tea and/or worth their time.
As you write you should always have your reader in view. Consider who you think would love the work, who should steer clear, and why. You’ll present this recommendation in your Matchmaker Zip.
The Matchmaker Zip is usually the last paragraph before your ranking. In the best reviews it comes off as a bit redundant because you’ve described the work so thoroughly that its high points, shortcomings and ideal audience are obvious. But it doesn’t have to be a meaningless repeat of what you’ve said before. The best Matchmaker Zip will either expand upon the case you have made in the lead-up to this paragraph or describe it in a new way.
DO – remove your own opinion from your Matchmaker Zip. It’s not about what YOU love or hate — it’s how you think most viewers will react to the work, or it’s the identification of a particular audience or type of person that you think will enjoy it.
DO – take ownership of any opinions per the Picture This Post Rules—even in this last zip of your story.
