To honor maestro and music director Sir Andrew Davis’ tenure of more than three decades, the Lyric Opera of Chicago presents Celebrating Sir Andrew Davis: From Mozart to Stravinsky, a valedictory concert conducted by Davis himself. Debuting at Lyric in 1987 and serving as music director and principal conductor since 2000, Davis has led 690 opera performances, nine special concerts, and dozens of free concerts in the Chicago area, all of which span a wide range of repertoire.
The program features selections from two of Davis’ favorite operas: Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress. Performing these works are Lyric favorites, according to the event spokesperson, including Janai Brugger, Kayleigh Decker, Matthew Polezani, and Kyle Ketelsen. The concert also features tributes from notable names in opera, sharing recollections about working with Davis as a conductor, mentor, and colleague.
