LA Opera presents composer Missy Mazzoli’s Breaking the Waves. After a near-fatal accident leaves Bess’s new husband paralyzed, he implores her to take lovers. Torn between her husband’s wishes and the traditional values of her small community and her church, she determinedly follows her faith to a tragic end.

This adaptation of Lars Von Trier’s 1996 cinematic show won the 2017 award for “Best New Opera” by the Music Critics Association of North America, and this new filmed version features James Darrah in the director's chair once again.
