... a group exhibition of work interpreting the natural landscape. The landscape genre has long and storied roots in global art history: the Chinese tradition dates to the Han Dynasty (206 BCE—220 AD) while the European tradition began in the medieval era. In recent decades, there has been a resurgence of contemporary artists interested in the natural landscape. Many eco-centered art movements reflect on the rapidly changing state of nature in sculpture, painting, photography, and site-specific installation. On The Horizon brings together artists on the Erin Cluley Gallery roster and beyond to survey contemporary developments in the landscape genre. These artists’ work allows us to reframe our understanding of ecologies near and far from us, constructing new ways of seeing..."
