Congo Square Theatre Company Season
Performance of "Day of Absence" during the 2019-2020 season

The 21st Season of programming for 2020-2021 of the Congo Square Theatre Company (Congo Square), an African American Theatre based in Chicago, will include:

Hit ‘Em on the Blackside 

2020 webisodes: Oct. 9, Oct. 23, Nov. 6, Nov. 20, Dec. 4 and Dec. 18

2021 webisodes: March 20, April 3, April 17, May 1, May 15, May 29

Directed by Congo Square Ensemble Member Anthony Irons, featuring artists Ron Conner, Alexis J. Roston, Tiffany Addison and Kelvin Roston Jr.

Hit ‘Em on the Blackside is a bi-weekly, sketch comedy webisodes posted for free viewing on the company’s social media platforms. These webisodes will eventually be compiled into a full show on Congo Square’s website.

Festival on the Square

February 4-6, 2021

Conceived in 2010, the ​Festival on the Square is a collaborative series of multimedia experiences featuring film, music and dance, conceived by former Artistic Director Daniel Bryant and presented annually by Congo Square Theatre Company. Performances, screenings and round table discussions during the festival speak to the original Congo Square and the legacy of the weekend gatherings among people of color in New Orleans.

 

 

 

This year’s Festival on the Square will be in a digital format with a guiding theme of Building Community. Programs will include a 10-minute play festival with live readings and Conversations at the Square highlighting Black artists and industry professionals, facilitated by Congo Square Ensemble Members.
