“...Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project presents Divination: The Dancing Souls of Black Folk, featuring ten dynamic companies exploring the divine, mystical and spiritual ways our ancestors communicate and celebrate with us. Highlights include a collaboration between M.A.D.D Rhythms and The Era Footwork Collective, in which tap dancers battle it out on the dance floor against crew members. Praize Productions reprises a selection from their recent, lauded production “Black Love Reigns Supreme,” which celebrates the beauty of Black relationships. Marking its 50th anniversary, Joel Hall Dancers presents “Usher,” a new, intergenerational work focused on the transfer of wisdom from elders to juniors. Muntu Dance Theatre will perform “Soli,” a restaging of a beloved work from the company’s rich archive. The program will conclude with the world premiere of “It is Written,” set to the music of Earth, Wind and Fire and featuring dancers drawn from the broader community. Spotlighting dance genres from Chicago Footwork to Hip Hop mixed with Ballet (aka Hiplet), to jazz and contemporary dance, this concert promises to stir every soul…"
