A spokesperson describes the event as follows:
Africa to Carolina, a panel style traveling exhibit, will be at the Museum from June 10, 2023 - September 4, 2023.
The exhibit explores the Middle Passage, conditions on slave ships, the slave-trading business, laws concerning the importation of enslaved people, and methods of their resistance.
“The national interest in this history heightens the relevance of our efforts to identify, acknowledge, and physically mark sites where enslaved people disembarked from the African continent to North Carolinian soil," said Adrienne Nirdé, NC African American Heritage Commission Associate Director. "Working to understand our history, however complicated, builds knowledge and inspires the future.”
